Sir Henry Morton Stanley- Explorer, journalist; as a New York Herald correspondent, he led the expedition to find Dr. David Livingstone, the missionary from whom no word had been received for over two years. After months of treacherous travel, he discovered Livingstone on the shore of Africa's Lake Tanganyika and inquired simply, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" Born in Denbigh, England.

Jackie Robinson- Baseball player; he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 as the first black player in the major leagues and was a major factor in his team's winning six pennants and a World Series. He was his league's Most Valuable Player in 1949 and Hall of Famer, 1962. Born in Cairo, Georgia.
